World premiere! The result of a collaboration between Continental and ProTour teams, this is a completely new type of tyre concept. The first Tire Positioning System (TPS) tubular tire set. At the front, the 22 mm narrow Attack Comp does its work and provides improved aerodynamics as well as high agility through faster transition into corners.
At the rear, the 24 mm wide Force Comp power house provides a large contact area that guarantees a better power transmission as well as low rolling resistance. Couple this with a higher mileage and a higher level of comfort thanks to the wider casing, and you get a tubular tire which is especially forgiving with today's ultra stiff racing bikes. This set is hand sewn in Korbach, and features our BlackChili Compound as well as Vectran® Breaker anti puncture technology.
This unique tread rubber mixture which is only produced in the Continental German factory has revolutionized bicycle tyres. The resultant compound showed a new relationship between grip and rolling resistance. This "Elevated level", as it was previously known, was given the name "BlackChili". Countless test wins that were shown in laboratory tests show a tangible benefit. The latest polymers, nanoscale soot particles and optimized fillers all guarantee a unique performance, from downhill MTB tyres to the time trial tyres of the ProTour, they are second to none in their respective areas. BlackChili Compound improves rolling resistance by 26% and provides 30% more grip than activated silica compounds. Premium tyres with BlackChili Compound also impress with higher mileage and unlike many multi-compounds, provide a constant ride from the fi rst to the last kilometer.
Vectran™ is spun from Vectra liquid crystal polymer, which results in a thread that is thermoplastic and has multifilaments. This semi-crystalline material is harder then aramid, has five times higher tensile strength than steel and in addition, is also lighter than comparable nylon thread. Vectran™ maintains these attributes even in the most adverse weather conditions.
With the TyrePositioningSystem, the last little bit of what is currently technically possible has been exploited. Motorcyclists have known for a long time: Different demands are made on a front tyre than on its rear counterpart. The narrower front tyre provides reduced wind resistance and better handling. An adhesion-optimized tread mixture supplies the necessary grip especially for wet cornering. The wide rear tyre offers better traction thanks to a larger contact area and at the same time more comfort. Thanks to the fast rolling, optimized tread mixture and the larger contact area on the rear tyre, wear is reduced. The result is a pioneering front tyre and rear tyre system for road racing; to be found in GP Attack and Force combination. New since 2013: The first tubulars featuring the TPS system!
